541 TUPAD Workers in Ilocos Norte Receive Wage from DOLE

Some 541 workers under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) Program in the Province of Ilocos Norte received their wages in a series of payout ceremonies spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office I (DOLE ROI).
209 TUPAD Workers belonging to the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in Laoag City received their wages on May 6, 2021, in a payout ceremony led by DOLE RO1 Regional Director Atty. Evelyn Ramos, and local officials namely Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc represented by his Chief of Staff Atty. Juan Alfonso Augustus Jose, Laoag Mayor Michael Marcos Keon, and Laoag SK Federation President Anzhel Yka Faye Lao.
Each of the youth workers received P3,400 wage after completing 10-day community cleaning and disinfection.  The DOLE has disbursed P 710,600 for the day’s payout.
In earlier months, the DOLE RO1 has likewise extended the amount of P 1,826,000 to 332 TUPAD workers in the municipalities of Nueva Era (40 workers), Bacarra (55), Pagudpud (182), Currimao (20), and  Solsona (35). The workers earned P5,500 each as wage for their 16.48 days of service of community disinfection and sanitation.
To protect them in their discharge of duties, the TUPAD workers were also given Personal Protective Equipment and micro-insurance.
DOLE Ilocos Norte Field Office led by Ms. Susan Maynes facilitated the payout in various schedules, such as on March 4-5 for Pagudpud and Bacarra, as graced by Ilocos Norte First District Representative Cong. Ria Fariñas; March 2 and 12 for Nueva Era and Currimao; and April 16 for Solsona, co-facilitated by the Probinsyano Ako Partylist.
The program beneficiaries extended their gratitude for their wages, which they shall use to augment their family expenses, especially in these challenging times caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of them was Joseph Juan, 39, a construction worker, who said that being a TUPAD worker has brought him so much hope. “We are so happy for we can now provide the immediate needs of our families especially in this difficult time,” he said.
DOLE RO1 Regional Director Atty. Evelyn Ramos assured the TUPAD workers in Ilocos Norte of the DOLE’s continuing commitment to provide immediate help to formal and informal workers. She re-echoed Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III’s words in his 2021 Labor Day message, which trumpeted the vital role of workers in the country’s crisis recovery.
“Ang inyong tiwala at pananalig sa ating Pangulong Duterte ay sapat na dahilan upang kami ay magpatuloy na maglingkod upang ating mapagtagumpayan ang malaking hamon sa ating bayan,” the Secterary’s Labor Day message read. END/Justin Paul Marbella and Leonavella Duldulao.
